Nirmala Raghavan

Was born and brought up in India. Moved to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, after marriage.

Officer of the Educational Services, Ministry of Education, Malaysia (Retired)

Bilingual writer, in English and Tamil.

Former critic for Indian dance, music and drama for New Straits Times, Malaysia.  

Learnt Carnatic music under Padma Sri S.Kalyanaraman. Has composed 105 songs on Hindu Deities, based on South Indian classical music.

Sole judge representing Malaysia in the finals of Astro Music.

Received a gold medal for the life achievement award for short stories, Malaysian Tamil Writers Association, 2006.

Received three gold medals in Tamil Nesan short story competitions, in 1968, 1996 and 2004 respectively.

Won two first prizes in Radio Malaysia Tamil drama competitions (on psychology and independence), 1968.

Conducted short story and drama workshops.

Contributed radio and television dramas to Singapore Broadcasting Corporation, as well as 130 plays to Radio Malaysia, both English and Tamil networks, since 1968.
